1. What The Barrier Is
The Barrier is a Chrome extension and website that analyzes job listings using AI and pattern-matching to flag potential scams, ghost jobs, and exploitative postings. It is an informational tool only — not professional, legal, or career advice. We do our best to catch red flags, but we cannot guarantee any analysis is complete or error-free. Always use your own judgment before applying to or accepting any job offer.
2. Accounts
Creating an account is required to use The Barrier, including its core scanning feature.
You must sign in with Google or a valid email and password to access the extension.
You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
Use The Barrier for any unlawful purpose
Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse our AI analysis system
Submit false or malicious community reports intended to harm a legitimate employer
Exceed reasonable usage limits through automated means (bots, scripts)
Attempt to circumvent Free tier limits without a valid Pro subscription
Create multiple accounts to bypass daily usage limits
4. Community Reports
Reporting a listing is a good-faith mechanism to flag suspected scams.
We are not responsible for the accuracy of community-submitted reports, though we take reasonable steps (including report thresholds) to reduce abuse.
Submitting knowingly false reports to harm a legitimate business may result in account termination.
5. Free and Pro Tiers
Free accounts include 10 job analyses per day.
Pro is a paid subscription offering 50 analyses per day and other features (detailed on our pricing page). Pricing, features, and billing terms are subject to change with notice.
Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time; refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact support@thebarrier.co.
6. Disclaimers
The Barrier's risk scores and explanations are generated by AI and automated pattern-matching. They are not guarantees that a listing is or isn't a scam.
We are not liable for any decision you make — including applying to, accepting, or declining a job — based on information from The Barrier.
We do not verify employers, job listings, or hiring companies independently; our analysis is based solely on the text of the listing itself.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Barrier and its creator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the extension or website, including but not limited to lost wages, missed opportunities, or harm resulting from a job listing we failed to flag.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Meaningful changes will be reflected with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.
